Mizkan Pickled Red Onions

This quick pickled red onion recipe is so easy to do because it incorporates Mizkan Pickling Liquid, a ready-made pickling liquid that gives you consistent flavour every time - all you have to do is pour!

The recipe works great with just the onions and Mizkan Pickling Liquid but we've also given you some delicious examples of ways you can personalise your quick pickle with ingredients like black peppercorns, bay leaves, and mustard seeds.

Once you've pickled the onions, they are great on lots of different dishes like salads and kebabs, and we especially like adding them to burgers...

  • 200ml Mizkan Pickling Liquid
  • 1 large red onion, thinly sliced
  • 5–6 black peppercorns
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 small garlic clove, lightly crushed
  1. Pour Mizkan Pickling Liquid over the onions, peppercorns, bay leaf, mustard seeds, and garlic cloves so that all of the ingredients are submerged.
  2. Let sit for 20–30 minutes for a quick pickle.
  3. For deeper flavour and colour, refrigerate 2–4 hours or overnight.
